Bernd Kuhls 101997e334 package/binutils: add support for binutils 2.46.0
https://sourceware.org/pipermail/binutils/2026-February/148149.html

" This release contains numerous bug fixes, and also the following new
  features:

    * Support for new instructions added to AMD, ARM and RISC-V
      architectures.

    * Support for version 3 of the SFrame standard.

    * The readelf program can now display the contents of Global Offset
      Tables.

    * Improved linker tagging support."

We bring and rebased patches 0001 and 0002 that we carry for binutils
2.45.

Thomas Petazzoni b7d5ff9d51 package/binutils: add support for binutils 2.45.1
We bring patches 0001 and 0002 that we carry for binutils 2.44. Patch
0002 requires a small update as a nearby configure option has been
removed between 2.44 and 2.45. Patch 0003 that we have for binutils
2.44 is not needed as it is part of the 2.45 release.

Changes in 2.45:

* New versioned release of libsframe: libsframe.so.2. This release introduces
versioned symbols with version node name LIBSFRAME_2.0. Some new symbols
have been added to support the new flag SFRAME_F_FDE_FUNC_START_PCREL and
retrieving flags from SFrame decoder and encoder objects:
    - Addition of sframe_decoder_get_flags,
      sframe_decoder_get_offsetof_fde_start_addr, sframe_encoder_get_flags,
      sframe_encoder_get_offsetof_fde_start_addr.
This release also includes backward-incompatible ABI changes:
    - Removal of sframe_get_funcdesc_with_addr.
    - Change in the behavior of sframe_decoder_get_funcdesc_v2,
      sframe_encoder_add_funcdesc_v2 and sframe_encoder_write.

* On s390 64-bit (s390x), gas, ld, objdump, and readelf now support generating
and processing SFrame V2 stack trace information (.sframe). The assembler
generates SFrame info from CFI directives with option "--gsframe". The
linker generates SFrame info for the linker-generated .plt section and merges
all .sframe sections. Both objdump and readelf dump SFrame info with option
  "--sframe[=<section-name>]".

* For SFrame stack trace format, the function start address in each SFrame
FDE has a changed encoding: The 32-bit signed integer now holds the offset
of the start PC of the associated function from the sfde_func_start_address
field itself (instead of the earlier where it was the offset from the start
of the SFrame section itself). All SFrame sections generated by gas and ld
now default to this new encoding, setting the (new)
  SFRAME_F_FDE_FUNC_START_PCREL flag.

Relocatable SFrame links are now fixed.

* Readelf now recognizes RISC-V GNU_PROPERTY_RISCV_FEATURE_1_CFI_SS and
  GNU_PROPERTY_RISCV_FEATURE_1_CFI_LP_UNLABELED for zicfiss and zicfilp
  extensions.

* For RISC-V dis-assembler, the definition of mapping symbol $x is changed,
so the file needs to be rebuilt since 2.45 once used .option arch directives.

* The LoongArch disassembler now properly accepts multiple disassembly
options given by -M, such as "-M no-aliases,numeric". (Previously only the
  first option took effect.)

Neal Frager 11b439ce1b package/binutils-bare-metal: new package
This patch adds a new package for building binutils for a bare-metal toolchain.
The cpu architecture is defined by a toolchain-bare-metal virtual package.
While any cpu architecture could be used, the default configuration will be a
Xilinx microblaze little endian architecture, so that buildroot will be able
to build the microblaze firmware applications for zynqmp and versal.

In order to build the zynqmp pmufw and versal plm applications without error,
binutils version 2.41 or higher is required.

Alexey Brodkin 045ab73702 toolchain: bump ARC toolchain components to arc-2023.09-release
With the most recent ARC GNU toolchain version released [1]
we may switch to its stable and verified components for Buildroot's
built-in toolchian.

And while for ARCompact (i.e. ARC700) & ARCv2 (ARC HS38 & HS48)
processors upstream components work just fine, in this new release
of ARC GNU toolchain we have also support for newer ARCv3 procesors.

And so that update is more of an enabler for introduction of ARCv3
in the next series of patches.

Thomas Petazzoni 194da6a782 package/binutils: bump 2.36.x series to 2.36.1
Release notes:

We are very sorry to have to report that a problem was found with the
GNU Binutils 2.36 release. It turns out that it contained a small
portion of code that was not covered by an FSF copyright assignment.
So we have created a replacement release - 2.36.1 - with that code
  removed.

In addition we found that a fix for a theoretical security
vulnerability[1] was itself broken and could result in the archiver
program "ar" misbehaving. So we have chosen to revert the fix from
the 2.36.1 release whilst the problem is properly resolved.

Romain Naour 7eee918ba3 package/binutils: add binutils 2.33.1
Keep sh-conf and poison-system-directories patches.
Remove xtensa patches already in this version [1] [2] [3].

Revert an upstream patch since it prevent booting a sh4 system under
Qemu as reported on the Binutils mailing list [5] [6].
This commit is not related to sh4, it's weird that it is the
only affected architecture.

Romain Naour a4837f29a2 package/binutils: add support for binutils 2.32
Remove upstream ARC and Xtensa patches.
Keep all other patches from binutils 2.31.1.

See the release note:
https://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2019-02/msg00010.html

While testing the Binutils 2.32 version bump, the Qemu xtensa
defconfig (that was using a kernel 4.16) needed to be updated with a
patch [1] from kernel 4.19 otherwise the kernel doesn't boot with
binutils 2.32 [2].

Since then, all Qemu defconfig has been updated by commit [3] to use a
4.19 kernel, so the issue no longer exists.

All other architectures has been tested using toolchain-builder [4].

Evgeniy Didin 2f70946c39 toolchain: fix URLs for ARC gcc/binutils/gdb
In commit cd9d58f1fc ("toolchain: bumb
ARC tools to arc-2018.09 release"), the ARC-specific binutils, gcc and
gdb versions were updated to use the 2018.09 release. However, they
are mistakenly pointing to a branch rather than a tag. This commit
fixes that by using the proper release tag.
